Touch panels
A touch panel turns a display into an input device. Orient Display builds two touch technologies — projected-capacitive (PCAP) for multi-touch behind a durable glass front, and resistive (RTP) for low-cost, glove- and stylus-friendly input — as standalone sensors you bond to your own display, or integrated onto one of our TFT modules.
Orient Display has manufactured display and touch products since 1996, from factories certified to ISO9001, ISO/IATF16949, ISO14001, and IECQ QC080000, backed by US-based engineering that stays with you from datasheet to production.
Which touch panel do I need?

Two touch technologies — standalone sensors you bond to your own display, or integrated onto an Orient Display module. Each is available custom.
Capacitive touch (PCAP)
A projected-capacitive touch panel senses your finger through a solid cover lens, with no moving parts and no pressure needed — the choice when you want multi-touch, gestures, a glass front, and the clarity of an optically bonded stack.
- Touch pointsUp to 16-point multi-touch
- Front surfaceChemically strengthened glass
- Sensor interfaceI²C · USB
Resistive touch
A resistive touch panel registers a press — a flexible polyester top sheet and a coated glass base meet under finger, glove, or stylus pressure. The low-cost, rugged choice, and the one that keeps working wet, oily, or gloved where PCAP struggles.
- Touch pointsSingle-touch
- InputFinger · glove · stylus

Compare the technologies
Capacitive (PCAP) vs. resistive (RTP). The two touch technologies side by side, from the sub-type spec pages. Pick by what your product needs — multi-touch and a glass front, or lowest cost and gloved/wet operation.
| Capacitive (PCAP) | Resistive (RTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sizes | 0.96″ – 32″ (standalone sensors dominate the larger sizes) | 1.44″ – 15.6″ |
| Sensing | Projected capacitive (mutual; self-capacitance option); 2.5D / 3D curved-surface options | Pressure-based; coated glass base + coated polyester top sheet |
| Touch points | Up to 16-point multi-touch, plus gestures | Single-touch |
| Panel type | Standalone CTP-series sensors; integrated AFY / AFK / AFC modules | 4-wire standard; custom 5-wire or 8-wire on request |
| Sensor interface | I²C, USB (integrated modules also RGB, LVDS, MIPI, HDMI) | Analog 4-wire, FPC tail |
| Input | Bare finger through the cover lens, no pressure | Finger, glove, stylus, or any pointing device |
| Cover / front surface | Chemically strengthened, Dragontrail or Gorilla Glass; AR / AG / AF / AS / AB treatments | Flexible polyester top sheet |
| Optical clarity | Higher — optically bonded glass stack | Lower |
| Environment | Durable glass front | Low power; liquid-resistant (water, salt water, oil, solvent); works wet and gloved |
| Best for | Multi-touch, a glass front, and optical clarity | Lowest cost, gloved / wet / rugged use, pressure activation |
Which page do I want?
Standalone panel, or integrated module? Touch shows up in two places on this site. They are split by what you buy, not by the technology.
Touch Panels (this pillar)
Standalone touch panels and bare sensors — a touch layer you bond to your own display, in either PCAP or resistive. This is where the touch technologies and their cover-glass, bonding, and surface-treatment options are documented.
TFT with touch
A TFT display supplied with touch already integrated, as one part (families AFY / AFK / AFC). If you want the display and touch as a single module rather than a bare sensor, start at TFT with touch in the TFT pillar.
