Why Orient Display

Where our low-power displays go in a connected device

Connected home and IoT devices are defined by their constraints: a small power budget, an interface that stays readable without a backlight burning battery, and a product that ships in high volume and stays in the field for years. Reflective e-paper and low-power TFT and OLED are core to what we make — and our US engineers match the display to those constraints from part selection through production.

Applications & engineering fit

Device classes and the engineering behind them

OD has engineered custom displays for smart-home and connected building devices across the device classes below, built for the readability, touch feel, and everyday reliability those products demand.

Device categories we've engineered displays for:

Thermostats & climate-control panels Building intercom & entry systems

Engineering we typically bring to these programs:

Projected-capacitive touch with custom cover-lens shapes and silk-screen printing Chemically strengthened cover glass Waterproof, sealed assemblies for humid and wet-room installations Interface conversion for drop-in module upgrades
Certifications & quality

The quality system behind the module

What Orient Display holds today, stated plainly — and, marked in amber, the radio and connectivity certifications a connected device may require that are not held for these modules. Nothing amber should be read as a held certification.

General quality and compliance certifications we hold, applied across all industries:

ISO 9001 QC 080000 RoHS REACH UL listing

Radio, connectivity, and IoT-platform certifications a connected device may require — not held for these modules today, and not to be read as met:

FCC Part 15 radio emissions CE / Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Matter device certification Bluetooth SIG / Zigbee / Wi-Fi Alliance listing wireless coexistence and interoperability testing

A display module carries our own material-compliance and quality certifications; the radio and platform certifications above attach to the finished connected device, not to the display, and are not something we hold or represent for these modules. Tell us the standard your device must meet and we will tell you what we can support.

What a connected-device program asks of the display supplier

The constraints a smart home or IoT product brings to a display, and where Orient Display's proven capability meets them — with anything not substantiated for these modules marked in amber, never implied.

Display & power

  • Reflective e-paper (1.54″–7.5″) that holds an image with no power draw between refreshes
  • Low-power TFT and small monochrome or color OLED (0.66″–8″) for battery and always-on devices
  • Sunlight-readable IPS and reflective variants for bright rooms and outdoor sensors
  • Integrated PCAP capacitive touch for panels, hubs, and thermostats
  • Wide-temperature operation for garages, porches, and outdoor IoT nodes
  • Quantified ultra-low-power current draw and months-to-years battery-life figures for a specific device

Documentation & integration

  • Full specifications, application notes, evaluation-kit instructions, and driver-IC specs on request
  • Demo boards, ARM control boards, and Raspberry Pi displays for prototyping
  • US engineering support from part selection through production
  • Pre-integrated wireless module (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, Zigbee, Thread, or Matter) on the display assembly
  • Certified interoperability with a named IoT platform or voice ecosystem

Regulatory & process

  • RoHS and REACH material compliance and UL listing as a baseline
  • Design-in from a standard module, guided by our engineering team, to a manufacturable spec
  • High-volume production with a repeatable, locked spec for a consumer program
  • FCC Part 15 and CE / RED radio-emissions certification for a wireless device
  • Regulatory radio-certification support for the finished connected product
Shared capability · de-risking your supply chain

Non-China country-of-origin options, by tier

For programs with sourcing constraints, four escalating country-of-origin paths — a manufacturing capability offered across every industry, at capability level.

Tier 1

Non-China-origin shipping

Production in Thailand or Malaysia using Chinese components, shipping from a non-China origin.

Tier 2

COO-qualifying

A build configured so a Certificate of Origin can be issued for the finished module.

Tier 3

Zero-China-factor

Production through a Taiwan partner with no Chinese bill-of-materials content.

Tier 4

NCNT on request

A No-China, No-Taiwan sourcing path available on request for the most constrained programs.

Shared capability · lifecycle & documentation

Built for the length of your program

Hardware programs run long qualification cycles and long production lives. We plan the engagement around that.

Long design-in cycle

We support the extended qualification and design-in cycle a hardware program runs, from concept spec to production release.

Multi-year part retention

Once a module is designed in, we hold it in production across the product's life, so a qualified display does not force a mid-cycle redesign.

Long-lived supplier

An established manufacturer that will still be here across the product's service life, so a designed-in display keeps its source.

Specs & samples on demand

Full specifications, application notes, evaluation kits, and driver-IC documentation available to your engineers.

24-hour US sample shipping

Samples ship from the US within 24 hours, so evaluation starts without an overseas wait.

US engineering support

In-house US engineers guide part selection, touch integration, and initialization alongside the factory.

Common questions

Smart home & IoT buyer FAQ

Do you make low-power and e-paper displays for battery devices?

Yes. Reflective e-paper from 1.54″ to 7.5″ holds its image with no power draw between refreshes, and we build low-power TFT and small OLED for always-on and battery-powered devices. These are core product lines, not special orders.

Can you integrate capacitive touch into a smart-home panel?

Yes. Capacitive (PCAP) touch integrated to the module is a standard custom capability for thermostats, hubs, and control panels, alongside resistive touch where that fits better.

Do the displays come with a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or Matter radio built in?

Orient Display builds the display module. Pre-integrating a wireless module (Wi-Fi, BLE, Zigbee, Thread, or Matter) onto the display assembly, and any named-platform interoperability certification are not confirmed for these modules — tell us your connectivity requirement and we will tell you what we can support today.

Are your modules FCC or CE certified for a connected device?

Those certifications attach to the finished connected product, not to the display. FCC Part 15 and CE / RED radio certification are not held or represented for these modules — we will not imply a radio certification we do not hold. Raise the specific standard your device must meet and we will tell you what we can support.

What are your lead times for samples and custom production?

Samples typically ship in 3–6 weeks and production runs in 4–8 weeks, depending on configuration; US samples ship within 24 hours where stocked.

Can you supply non-China country-of-origin for a connected-device program?

Yes, as a capability — four escalating tiers from non-China-origin shipping through a No-China, No-Taiwan path on request. See the de-risking section above.
